Luigi Mengoni was born in Florence, Italy, in 1970. He took private piano lessons for three years. Self-taught organist, since 1983 he is titular of the Costamagna organ of Sant'Agata Mugello Parish Church. He has given concerts in Italy and France and he has inaugurated two new instruments.
In 1996 he graduated cum laude in Information Engineering from the University of Florence. His master's thesis was titled "Object-Oriented Analysis and Design of a Distributed System of Orchestral Lecterns".
He has written extensively for its favourite instrument, mainly variations for Solo Organ; between its sets, Variations on the traditional Tuscan Christmas carol "Levate su, pastori" and Variations on "Auld Lang Syne" were premiered and recorded by french concertist Daniel Pandolfo (Editions Pamina, "Collection des orgues d'Alsace"). Its works have been played in several countries and venues, such as St. Peter?s Basilica (Vatican City), St. Gallen Cathedral (Switzerland), La Madeleine Church (Paris, France), St. Petersburg Philharmonia Grand Hall (Russia).
In 2018 Mengoni won the Second Prize at the Composition Contest organized by the town of Burghausen (Germany) to mark the 200-year anniversary of the Christmas carol "Stille Nacht" ("Silent night").
In 2021 he was asked to compose a piece for the bicentenary of the organ of Blevio (Lake Como, Italy), built by Prestinari.
In 2023 its Tuba Tune on Lourdes Hymn was ranked third in the Composition Competition of the YouTube channel PEP Organ, and its Meditation on "God rest you Merry, Gentlemen" was selected for the anthology Manuals only music for Christmas, published by Tim Knight Music.
